Kahwa-Spiced Falafel with Saffron Tahini Dip

A Middle Eastern classic gets a luxurious twist with kahwa infusion. Crispy falafel infused with kahwa’s aromatic notes of saffron, cardamom, and cinnamon are paired with a silky saffron tahini dip. This starter is bold, exotic, and perfect for serving as an elegant mezze plate.
Ingredients: For Falafel
- 1 cup dried chickpeas (soaked overnight)
- ½ cup fresh parsley leaves
- ½ cup fresh coriander leaves
- 1 small onion, roughly chopped
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp kahwa blend (diluted with 2 tbsp warm water)
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
For Saffron Tahini Dip
- 2 tbsp tahini
- 2 tbsp yogurt (or plant-based yogurt)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp kahwa blend (diluted in 1 tbsp warm water)
- Pinch of saffron strands
- Salt to taste
Method
In a food processor, blend chickpeas, parsley, coriander, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander powder, baking soda, and diluted kahwa until coarse and sticky.
Form small falafel balls and chill for 20 minutes.
Heat oil and deep-fry until crisp and golden.
For the dip, whisk tahini, yogurt, lemon juice, saffron-diluted kahwa, and salt until smooth.
Serve falafel hot with the saffron tahini dip, garnished with sesame seeds and herbs.
